2003-10-18 8:50 pm I come back, and sure enough, she starts up properly. I open the BIOS and check her temperature ... 40C ... 45C ... 50C ... 55C ... at this point I look inside and notice the CPU fan is running incredibly slow. Bingo, lack of cooling would be a big problem. So, I had out to the friendly neighborhood Best Buy and return with a heat sink, thermal compound, anti static wrist pad, USB 2.0 expansion card (been needing this) ... plus Matrix Reloaded & Witch Hunter Robin Special Edition ^_^::. After some quick surgery, she is up and running. Been purring like a kitten ever since. Yay! I've have been playing around with iTunes, now that the windows version has been released. Setting aside the music store for a moment, this is a great utility. It is really the most flexibile and convenient application I have ever used for ripping mp3s, burning audio cds and mp3 cds, and organizing my music library. Plus it is free! If you do a lot of ripping and burning, I highly recommend trying iTunes. As you may have heard, one of the big features of iTunes is the integrated music store. Essentially, it has hundreds of thousands of songs that can be downloaded (legally) for .99 a song (albums are 9.99 if they are more than 10 songs). This is the price point that music should be at! The store is set up very well, and very easy to navigate, and has 20 - 30 sec previews of each song. I did go ahead and get a song to try it out ... an "exclusive" versions of Eminem's "The Way I Am" with Marilyn Manson. The only downside to the iTunes music store is it downloads the tracks in Apple's AAC format. This format is supposedly less lossy than mp3. However, if you want to play it on a device other than a computer with iTunes, your only choices are to burn it to and audio CD or use it on an iPod. So, you can't put these songs on an mp3 player or mp3 CD. Well, I suppose you could probably burn to an audio CD then rip them to mp3 ... hmmm I'll have to try that. Anyhow, I highly recommend giving iTunes a look-see. 2003-10-15 8:40 pm 2003-10-09 8:50 pm I have gotten my pictured compiled into a slideshow on a vcd, complete with JPop/anime background music. I will write more about my trip soon, I promise. In the meantime, here are the pictures I took at the Tokyo Game Show 2003. Note that only two of the pics aren't of booth babes (^_^);; 2003-10-04 2:30 am I am home. I don't want to be! I really want to still be in Tokyo ... Even though my body thinks it is 3:30 pm, I really need to get some sleep and shake this lag. i will write more later and start posting pics, either here or in the forum. All I will say now is Japan is the land of cute young women. Really, there is a higher concentration of cute young women (18 - 25ish) in most areas of Tokyo than I have seen anywhere else. Sugoi. 2003-09-24 3:30 pm My rental phone arrived yesterday (I shall have all my cell calls forwarded to it) ... it is a very thin and light cute little Japanese phone with a lovable animated mascot in the menus. Kawaii, indeed. In other news, I found out I am getting a positive salary adjustment (raise) effective this coming Monday, so that is cool. After I get back I will have to write more on FFT and Disgaea. I am about 40 hours into Disgaea, on the 12th of 14 chapters that compromise the main storyline. After you beat that is where the game really begins *grin*. If you have a PS2 and like either anime or RPGs, you must get this game. If you like RPGs and anime and don't have a PS2, I would highly recommend getting one so you can play it. 2003-09-11 10:30 pm I have gotten a couple videogames recently, and figured I'd mention them briefly here. I picked up Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the GBA, though I haven't touched it. I am saving it for the 15 hours of flight over the pacific. I also picked up the 3rd .hack game, a series (in all forms) that I have been thoroughly enjoying. Finally, I have been playing Disgaea, an excellent strategy RPG for the PS2. Basically if you like anime, rpgs, and have a PS2, you have to get this game. The characters are great, and it is quite humorous. Perhaps my favorite character so far is Flonne, a trainie angel sent from Celestia (heaven) to assasinate your father, the King of the Underworld (hell). On bumping into you while sneaking around the castle, she introduces her self, with a smile, "Hi! I am Flonne! I'm an assassin!" Heheh. 2003-09-08 8:30 pm Ok, to explain why it has been a while ... well, I have been lazy. You see, after the site renewal fiasco a while back, something happened so I could no longer use FrontPage. Yes, I can edit HTML by hand, and FTP it, but I am lazy and like to have the ability to use FrontPages "save to web" feature. Anyhow, it is finally fixed. I am going to try to get another page of Angel Dust/Neo up before I go to Japan. Though, I think it has been licensed, in which case I will stop. But, I should bring back some new manga from Japan to translate, whee! 2003-04-22 8:30 pm 2003-04-012 9:30 pm 2003-04-05 5:30 pm Contrary to the post, I am addicted to Zelda. IT has been exceeding all my expectations ... and I think it is edging out Metroid as my favorite GC game ... Been downloading a couple 1st episode fansubs of series I am interested in that haven't made it to this side of the ocean yet. One I have been particularly interested is Haibane Renmei, a series from the creator of Serial Experiments Lain. All I can say is after watching the first episode, Pioneer or whoever really needs to get this series over here fast. And now for the updated list of anime series I am currently collecting (that is, I don't own the entire series). Anime list: ( disc numbers in parens are owned, not watched; numbers in braces are on order, entries in bold have changed since the last update) .hack//Sign

2003-04-01 6:30 New episode of 24 on tonight, though I think the current war storyline is in bad taste. Doesn't Fox know it should be censoring itself in this trying day and age? And now for the updated list of anime series I am currently collecting (that is, I don't own the entire series). Anime list: ( disc numbers in parens are owned, not watched; numbers in braces are on order, entries in bold have changed since the last update) Best of Kitty ...............1,2,(3)
2003-03-29 8:20pm I finally installed a p2p app again, haven't had one for a while. But, there are several anime themes I want that don't have domestic OST releases, heheh. Went with KazaaLite, which is Kazaa (the p2p I used that I preferred the most) with all the ad-ware, spy-ware, and scum-ware removed. If you are using Kazaa (actually just about all the major p2p apps have ad/spy/scum-ware), I highly recommend replacing it with Kazaa Lite. I also recommend downloading an app such as Ad Aware, which will search your system for ad/spy/scum-ware and remove it - similar to what an antivirus program does to viruses. 2003-03-23 7:40pm Currently, I have Treecko up to his final evolution. I have 3 badges as well, and have collected around 3 dozen pokemon. Great game so far, improves on the previous ones in all aspects.
2003-03-19 10:10pm But first, some pictures, heheh. The first two are of my current anime shelving. Starting to get some artboxes, gotta display em art side out =) Next, for the curious, is a pic of my current HT setup. I was going to turn off the tv, but thought a pic of Larry king and John McCain would be humurous. Writing this as Bush speaks, it has begun. Regardless of my conflicting thoughts, the little boy inside me does find some excitement in it. Of course, I wouldn't quite feel that if I were a citizen of Baghdad :-\ 2003-03-09 9:20pm Hmm, had more to say but I am tired and don't feel like typing it all now. Not that anyone really reads this. Night all. |
